We are the hands and feet of Jesus! Members of Salem are actively serving Jesus every day in our local community in many different ways! If you are looking for an opportunity to serve locally, we have options for adults, students, and families to get plugged in throughout the year, both on- and off-campus. This page will be updated often as needs change and new events are added throughout the year.
Local Missions Volunteer Opportunities
Serving the Community during COVID-19
Here are several ways the church can serve during this time:
- Write letters to Salem members who are isolated in their homes, nursing homes, or assisted living. Contact the church office for a list.
- Donate to Western Wake Crisis Ministry here: http://wwcm.org/financial-donations
- MissionApex Produce Ministry: Help sort or deliver food to local communities we serve. If interested, please contact Pastor Mike or Debbie Barnes. See below for more information regarding this ministry.
Bringing the Community Into the Church
MissionApex Ministry Activities
On-campus local missions activities will resume when the church is safely reopened following COVID guidelines.
Serving Outside the Church
MissionApex Produce Ministry
A thriving produce co-op that delivers fresh and very affordable produce to local communities we serve. This ministry is made possible by the subsidized funding donated by several BFG classes and backed by the missions committee. Ways you can help:
- Volunteer as often as you'd like to sort and pack produce for delivery in Apex every other Friday from 9:00 – 10:00 am or 11:30 am if assisting with delivery. If interested, please sign up here. If you have more questions, contact Pastor Mike or Debbie Barnes.
- Sponsor a month with your small group or donate to the produce ministry. The cost of this ministry is partially funded by Salem's missions budget, but the remaining $200/month relies on member donations. Donations of any amount can be made by check or cash to Salem Baptist Church with the memo designated "West Haven Ministries Produce", or online by selecting "West Haven Ministries" from the drop down menu and adding "Produce Co-op" to the optional memo.
Tuesdays On The Block
Each Tuesday at 5:00 PM members go to West Haven apartment complex to spend time with kids, teaching them the bible, play games, and share the love of Jesus. Tuesdays On The Block provides kids with structure, physical activity, food, and an opportunity to learn more about Christ. Ways you can help:
- Sign up to come play with kids or provide snacks by using this link.
- If you have further questions contact Rachel Corvin or Pastor Mike.
Prison Ministry
The desire of this ministry is to seek to care and encourage our brothers and sisters who are incarcerated. Each year over 700,000 men and women are released from prison and return to our communities. A successful re-entry can make a life-changing difference for them, their family, and the whole community. Crossroads provides bibles and bible studies to incarcerated men and women in North Carolina, ministers to their family members through Angel Tree and more, and provides support when they are released. Learn more.
Salem Baptist Church is partnering with Crossroads Prison Ministry & Re-Entry to provide backpacks to 12 women and 12 men re-entering the community this April. Re-entry backpacks are a small way we can make a difference by providing them hygiene products and the means to buy essentials to get started. If you are interested in donating supplies for backpacks, please click here.

E3 Ministry in Durham
We support former Salem member Rodger Shull's ministry through E3 partners, an international church planting organization that also serves locally. In partnership with SEBTS, Rodger serves in RDU, specifically in the Rochelle neighborhood of East Durham. His goal is to increase the number of people in that area saying they know Jesus. Contact Rodger for information on how to get involved. Ways you can help:
- Pray for the growing number of believers, church planters, and disciplers
- Men needed for mentoring/discipling
